If you've seen Homeland now watch Prisoners of War
By a customer , 10 Sep 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
Excellent pacy drama, well acted and extremely compelling. The tension mounts as the story of what happened to the prisoners of war is developed.
You can really empathise with the characters of the prisoners of war and their families and it has a documentary like feel in parts.
It;s hard to describe without giving away the plot so all I can say is give this a go- it's worth the sub titles and far superior to its American version Homeland. It's more realistic with better characterisation. The relationships between the ex prisoners of war and their families are so credible. How would you feel after 17 years apart like Nimrode and his wife, Talya, who led a campaign for his release? What if you were Nurit who married her boyfriend's brother and had a child by him during his 17 year absence?
Thes were questions I kept asking myself while I was watching.
The final episode of Series one was truly gripping and just makes you crave for series 2!

(8)Loved Homeland but really loved this!
By Bette52 (1 review) , 26 Apr 2013I loved Homeland but I *really* loved this and can't wait for series 2. The acting is superb, the plot is slow but satisfying. The portrayal of the humanity of the characters is moving. Dana, the daughter of one of the freed captives, is brilliant, a messed up, dangerous character with stunning one-liners.- Was this review helpful to you?

Beyond Homeland
By a customer , 25 Apr 2013Superb, grittier telling of a story which is similar to Homeland but fundamentally different. Full of pathos and humanity as the main characters try to come to terms with what has scarred their lives and continues to dominate them in the 'present'. Less glib than Homeland, vastly darker and brooding with a constant nagging sense of disaster. If you enjoyed Homeland, get this!- Was this review helpful to you?

Fantastic show
By Laurier (3 reviews) , 10 Mar 2013Outstanding. Rent this. If you can believe it. Better than homeland. Much better. Just beware the violent scenes. I kept my eyes closed- Was this review helpful to you?

an israeli masterpiece
By August7th (16 reviews) , 09 Jan 2013What a splendid series;beautifully filmed and directed.
The complexities of captivity and eventual release are subtly conveyed without recourse to sentimentality or propaganda.
Quite gripping and highly recommended.- Was this review helpful to you?

Marvellous Series
By Holtbolter (41 reviews) from Bolton , 14 Oct 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
I loved Homeland and so decided to rent the original, after half an hour of slow paced action and subtitles I was ready to give it up, I'm glad I didn't, it's a superb piece of writing with a great cast who are really believable
I'm currently watching series 2 of Homeland but will now view it in a different light, though it's good it's no match for the series on which it's based,(very loosely in my opinion)
I recommend it highly.
One word of warning, it contains some very realistic violence.- Was this review helpful to you?
