Variation on a classic
By OscarFreak (417 reviews) from London , 03 May 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
This version of Romeo and Juliet based in a military academy with an all male cast has many plus points but at times I did find I was beginning to wonder away from it and had to concentrate to follow the action. The cast are very good and pleasing on the eye but somehow the issues within the group of cadets were not allowed to really surface and here I do have an issue with the editing of the film. If you are into Shakespeare big time then this is a must see film.- Was this review helpful to you?

(7)Excellent acting, pleasant cast
By Shmulik (4 reviews) from Lincoln , 27 Apr 2013I guess to really appreciate this film, you have to be able to understand Elizabethan English, and be familiar enough with plot of Shakespeare's R&J to be able to figure out who each character relates to. Fortunately I was able to do both, and I found the film electrifying! The actors have all had theatre training, and are very good in their roles. That they are all pleasing on the eye is another plus! After watching it once, I had figured out who each character was, and seeing it a second time helped everything slot into place.- Was this review helpful to you?

Didn't work
By Thegaycritic (72 reviews) , 23 Mar 2013for me. A good idea on paper but I just didn't enjoy it. Why not use the Shakespeare story, but not the dialogue?- Was this review helpful to you?

More than eye-candy.
By Basso (10 reviews) , 30 Nov 2012I loved this. The Shakespeare lines are well done and the men are beautiful. My big criticism was the camera work which I found annoying rather than dramatic which I suppose was the intention. Well worth a look. The closing credits are a real treat!- Was this review helpful to you?

It messes with your mind!!
By papatez (295 reviews) from folkestone , 10 Oct 2012A remarkable piece of work where the director weaves a Shakespearian play a) into a military academy and b) into an all male environment. (No change there, I 'spose, since women weren't allowed on stage anyway in those days). Anyway, I found it challenging to watch because the pathetic military environment scenario where the cadets were struggling to master the play in class and gave the usual wooden performances that you would expect at school; was counter-balanced by superb performances of the same lines when the cadets were off duty. The locker-room scenes came pretty close to those classic ones given by Tom Cruise in 'Top Gun' but I couldn't get my brain around the Shakespearian prose pouring from the lips of the beautiful bodies that you would only expect to see in such a movie as eye-candy. It didn't quite work for me but it's worth a watch- Was this review helpful to you?

Very Boring!
By Paul75 (16 reviews) from Coventry , 04 Oct 2012Expected something that was going to be rewarding with a Shakespearean twist. Couldn't really follow the film nor did I find it interesting. Ok, some of the cast are eye candy & thats about it! Quickly got bored with the film as it is slow & unexciting to follow. Seen better romantic films which had me crying however, this is just plain silly. The dialogue of the film is spoken as a Shakespearean play & couldn't understand some of it. Will be more careful of what I rent next time.- Was this review helpful to you?
