Prodigal Son is one of the best kung fu films I have ever seen. It is a common favourite among fans of Wing Chun Kung Fu; several characters are loosely based on historical figures from the Wing Chun history/legend, specifically, Leung Jan himself (played by Yuen Biao), and Leung Yee-Tai (played by Lam Ching-Ying) and Wong Wah-Bo (played by Sammo Hung) - both from the Red Boat Opera Company cited by the legend. I found the acting to be excellent, and the martial arts choreography is great fun throughout. Most impressive is the classical Wing Chun skill of Lam Ching-Ying, and the quite different style of fighting used by Frankie Chan. My only problem with this DVD version of the film, is that the english-subtitles-translations appear to be different to those used on the VHS version that I used to own. I don't understand Cantonese, but I've watched the VHS version so many times I noticed the words were different, so it didn't quite feel right in some scenes. I recommend this film to anyone who loves kung-fu films, such as Jackie Chan's 'Young Master', or 'Shanghai Noon' or Jet Li's 'Fearless' or 'Fist of Legend' remake.
