Dance till you dropBy Tim Turner from Manchester , 19 Jul 2005
[Highly rated reviewer]Perhaps the only reason to rent this average horror movie is the way in which it sees two cheesy genres collide - the slasher movie and the disco movie. Yes, just as the killings begin, you are treated to Jamie Lee Curtis and some bloke in a waistcoat throwing down some quite spectacular dancefloor moves. The music sometimes acts as an ironic counterpoint to the killing, but you have to wait for a film like 'National Lampoon's Class Reunion', which resembles this movie considerably, for the comedy to really arrive.
It isn't much of a recommendation, but 'Prom Night' is slightly different. The killer isn't interested only in the promiscuous, there is a whole bucket full of red herrings so it's hard to spot the killer, and rather than surround the murderer with a atmosphere of the supernatural, the masked psycho is regularly knocked over and humiliated. In one, presumably satirical scene, the murderer even has to rush back into a room to collect a forgotten axe.

Mediocre slasher.By CHRISTOBEN (131 reviews) from Loughborough , 21 Mar 2013When you consider that this film spawned two sequels and a remake , you would really expect this to be a much better film than it is! It is a mediocre, lack-lustre horror from the 'themed' slasher genre of the early eighties, with poor pacing, sloppy direction and below-par special effects. However, it does just about hold your interest till the end and is okay as a 'whodunnit' so long as you don't expect too much from it!
not much entertaiment in this boring slasher flick.By S Braithwaite from england , 26 Aug 2010Normally there suspense in a horror movies, but no not this one, or at least not much. i got bored quite alot watching this film, no one actually dies for 1 long stupid hour, what a waste of time and pointless filming. Although from when the first person dies after an hour it starts to get pretty good. If you rent this, then watch the first 6 minute introduction then just fast forward for another hour!
Boring!By gatesheadsteve3 (31 reviews) from Gateshead , 31 Oct 2007I was bored stupid though this whole movie and had to stop myself from hitting the fast forward button. The first 5 minutes is a lousy set up for the movie then its an hour of prom talk, thats it!
When it eventually gets to the killings, yawn, this really should have been a 15 certificate as they are very tame. No scary atmosphere too, this isn't a patch on Halloween (another Jamie Lee Curtis slasher). Or it's sequels for that matter.
100% cheese but better than mostBy Paul from London , 13 Jun 2007Cheesy dialogue but this is one of the better horror films of it's time, well worth watching again.
