Love Ridley Scott, but this was simply dreadful

You know a film is bad when every two minutes you have the urge to turn it off, but you keep holding on because you're hoping there will be some clever twist that will redeem it,,,but it never comes. I honestly don't know how I made it to the end of this film. I even turned it off in the middle and had to come back to it because it was putting me to sleep. All the EXACT SAME things that shocked and delighted us Ridley Scott fans 30+ years ago with Alien and Aliens were rehashed in this film, but with NONE of the impact of the originals. The premise of the story with the 'genetic engineers' had such potential, which is why I held on to the end, but ultimately it turned into yet another myopic 'all aliens are evil monsters' movie. I'm sorry, but special effects (which were admittedly very good in a few places) cannot make up for the lack of substance, dangling plotlines and shallow character development. Obviously the lack of closure at the end of the film was to set us up for a sequel...but this one was so bad, I really don't care where the story is going from here. I also found the incessantly blaring score to be extremely irritating, too. Not even close to the Jerry Goldsmith (Alien) and James Horner scores (Aliens). Moral of the story: if you're going to resurrect an iconic film, make sure it's BETTER than the original... especially if it's your own work.- Was this review helpful to you?

Don't really know why I bothered....
By Kwaze (23 reviews) from Sutton Coldfield , 30 Apr 2013Boringly predictable version of Alien, but nothing like as good - Can't really think of anything positive to say about it, as even the soundtrack was drab...- Was this review helpful to you?

Prometheus - My Review
By DaddyTank (203 reviews) from Ulan Bator , 30 Apr 2013I watched this in the cinema where I was impressed by the stuff happening in my eyes but not so much with the stuff that wasn't happening in my brain. It's actually a bit better second time round. Idris Elba isn't quite as annoying and it makes a bit more sense. The ginger bloke is still a dick though and there is really no excuse for Guy Pearce showing up as Benjamin Button.- Was this review helpful to you?

Prometheus? Poppycock!
By Durrant102 (11 reviews) from Essex , 30 Apr 2013This is the worst remake of a remake of a remake I've yet to see! There was no discenrnible story; the actors were sleep-walking through the script; the only reason I watched till the end was to see if it would improve after the first 10 minutes..it didn't. Why Scott and Theron were involved I have no idea. It was a 'story' made up from the best bits of the first two films and they were badly executed and quite funny: the robot 'head' talking on the ground and the 'alien' coming out of the body were poorly executed. Come on Scott...when a story has been don to death...move on.- Was this review helpful to you?

Sit Back and Enjoy
By Frodo65 (2 reviews) , 28 Apr 2013Anyone who loved alien is going to fall for this , A typical film from Ridley Scott , Fast paced and good all round acting especially from Fassbender . As you would expect all special effects up to date . Story line holds up well, obviously comparisons with original Alien movie will be noticed , only down side to whole movie is a little lack of character depth however it is compensated by the fast pace. ( cant have it both ways ). Classic ending for all Alien Fans, clearly designed for possible returns to the theme. One way i judge a film is are you still thinking about the next day. and answer is |Yes, Sit Back and Enjoy- Was this review helpful to you?
