    [Highly rated reviewer]

You need to put this film into context to appreciate it. This was one of the first films of it's genre and largely based on psychological effect.

By today's standards it is easily described as slow lacking in the soughtafter gore and action of our times.

However, it is a well thought out and directed brainchild of Hitchcock and film enthousiastes should definately give it a try, although you definately need to put a night aside for it.

it is a film essential by any means.

This film sends a shiver down the spine and is in every sense a ground breaking film. The cast, special effects and the intelligent script make for compelling viewing. The film is also a superb glimpse into the life of ordinary Americans during what was surely their golden age. I can not speak highly enough about this film.

very few films survive through the ages when the story has been reproduced so many times and told in a bad way. this is one of them films, even years later its still creepy and very enthralling

Hitchcock creates tension and builds and sustains it right until the final scene. The murders are absolutely terrifying, partly because you know that they are coming, and also because they are seemingly committed by an old lady - which I suppose we think of as harmless.

I really loved this Alfred Hitchcock at his very best. This is a great horror from back in the day.

This takes me back to a time when classics were made.

  • The pinnacle of filmmaking?

Without a doubt, one of the best films have ever seen. Hitchcock really got this film spot on, setting the benchmark for american horror movies and creating the 'predictable pleasure' element through the iconic cinematography and sound use.

I just wish that I saw this film when it was first realised, as its historic scenes have been copied and become very cliche, getting rid of the novelty that this film would of once held!

Still, a great watch, and a must for any film enthusiast!
