Public Enemy

Director Kang Woo-Seo
Run time 132 mins Certificate 18

19th May 2011

Cop's partner detective shoots himself dead in the car having learned that internal affairs are onto them with 3 kilos of narcotics in the back of their car. Action switches to successful young investor who is about to make massive amount of money after some very smart operations. It's a long film with plenty of violence and less than tiny glimpse of sex. The plot develops explicitly too so there is not a lot of suspense but action doesn't let up and characters are well defined. The public enemy line is obvious enough even though it doesn't necessarily refer only to gangsters and Kang who is the committed detective is even asked whether he is a gangster at one point. I didn't scan forward once so it must have been good although the very beginning looks a little like Police Academy.
