When Punk Rock started to break through in the summer of 1976, the structure of the British record industry was thrown into disarray. It was to be the beginning of the end of the dominance of the major record companies for quite a time, and the start of the rise of a very powerful period of influence from the many hundreds of emerging independent labels.
