Shrek's sidekick gets his own movie, but if you've watched the trailer then you'll have seen all the best bits.

Suave, sassy, stylish and highly entertaining start to a promising new franchise spin offBy TheyCallMeMrGlass (44 reviews) from London , 27 Nov 2011
[Highly rated reviewer]I saw this today at a Sky preview screening in London.
I have been anticipating this movie having watched the trailers and entertaining snippets released so far. This looked like it could be a winner.
And it is. This was a delightfully suave, stylish, and surprisingly toe tapping movie. Its full to the brim with charm, wit and a few laugh out loud moments. The story had a lot of heart covering the usual messages of friendship and drawing lines between right and wrong. But its told with so much zest and energy.
Banderos's Puss in Boots personality is full of wit, arrogance and charm that gives the whole movie a tremendous sparkle. I actually like this film more than the Shrek films now. The support from Zach Galifianakis' voice over for Humpty Dumpty (whom I am not familiar with, as I have not even seen Hangover) is a delight and I thought all through the movie that it was Luke Wilson. Sounded just like him. Salma Hayek sexily voices the romantic interest to the womanising Puss in Boots with mischievous playfulness. Its a nice touch to have her cast with Banderous even though the this movie pays homage mainly to Zorro, rather than Desperado...though you do get some Desperado nods at the beginning and several enjoyable spaghetti western references.
While the 3D is very very good, it suffers badly with the film's dark colour palette. Usually a more vibrantly coloured animated film works well but unfortunately, its all too dark in many scenes of this film. If that bothers you, I strongly suggest seeing it in 2D unless you are buddies with your local cinema projectionist and ask him/her to up the brightness level of the projection ;)
I give this 8.5/10 for an engaging story, great charm, stylish visuals, sparkling main lead, and exotic toe tapping soundtrack. (in fact this was more toe tapping than Happy Feet 2 which I saw a preview of yesterday)

Great film!By yanbart (135 reviews) , 09 Nov 2013Great film as rated by my young daughter. Nothing more to say really other than she thought it was great!
Unexpectedly Excellent!By Sector2814 (21 reviews) , 31 Oct 2013
[Highly rated reviewer]Unexpectedly excellent. Stylised, nuanced and above all extremely funny. Banderas is wonderful as Puss, having his macho posturing punctured on a regular basis. Strutting into the town has saved and being offered fresh milk, which he grabs like a glass of whiskey, but then drinks in rapid delicate cat laps. Enjoyed it enormously
Soft, furry and lethal!By a customer , 06 Sep 2013This was a great spin-off from Shrek with Antonio Banderas providing Puss' voice. Salma Hayek was sultry as Kitty Soft Paws and together they made a great furry pair of adventurers. Humpty Dumpty featured too as the mastermind behind a plan to steal some magic beans that grew into a giant beanstalk. At the top of the beanstalk was the goose that laid the golden eggs and the three of them decide to steal the goose. A simple enough plan but along the way there is adventure, dark dealings and mayhem! A great little film with lots of funny moments.
Furball tastic!By twosoddingcats (269 reviews) from Kingston-upon-Thames , 29 Jul 2013Antonio Banderas is brilliant as the voice of Puss in Boots and so is Salma Hayak as Kitty soft Paws. Nice plot involving Humpty Dumpty and the Golden Goose. Watched it with the kitten I just adopted from Battersea and he loved it.
Great!... fun and suitable for all...By SiSlayRD500 (165 reviews) from Solihull , 13 Jun 2013As per title - Great!... fun and suitable for all. As with most of the 'animated' films these days, the quality is excellent. The story is good and mixes traditional with a contemporary take on the various characters. I think most young kids will love this, but as said above also think it's suitable for all ages - as long as you've got an imagination still anyway! Overall, GREAT!
