Shrek's sidekick gets his own movie, but if you've watched the trailer then you'll have seen all the best bits.

Suave, sassy, stylish and highly entertaining start to a promising new franchise spin off
By TheyCallMeMrGlass (42 reviews) from London , 27 Nov 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
I saw this today at a Sky preview screening in London.
I have been anticipating this movie having watched the trailers and entertaining snippets released so far. This looked like it could be a winner.
And it is. This was a delightfully suave, stylish, and surprisingly toe tapping movie. Its full to the brim with charm, wit and a few laugh out loud moments. The story had a lot of heart covering the usual messages of friendship and drawing lines between right and wrong. But its told with so much zest and energy.
Banderos's Puss in Boots personality is full of wit, arrogance and charm that gives the whole movie a tremendous sparkle. I actually like this film more than the Shrek films now. The support from Zach Galifianakis' voice over for Humpty Dumpty (whom I am not familiar with, as I have not even seen Hangover) is a delight and I thought all through the movie that it was Luke Wilson. Sounded just like him. Salma Hayek sexily voices the romantic interest to the womanising Puss in Boots with mischievous playfulness. Its a nice touch to have her cast with Banderous even though the this movie pays homage mainly to Zorro, rather than Desperado...though you do get some Desperado nods at the beginning and several enjoyable spaghetti western references.
While the 3D is very very good, it suffers badly with the film's dark colour palette. Usually a more vibrantly coloured animated film works well but unfortunately, its all too dark in many scenes of this film. If that bothers you, I strongly suggest seeing it in 2D unless you are buddies with your local cinema projectionist and ask him/her to up the brightness level of the projection ;)
I give this 8.5/10 for an engaging story, great charm, stylish visuals, sparkling main lead, and exotic toe tapping soundtrack. (in fact this was more toe tapping than Happy Feet 2 which I saw a preview of yesterday)- Was this review helpful to you?

Funny for all ages
By a customer , 18 Mar 2013Another brilliant film that appeals to both adults and children alike. There were many funnies for adults that had me chuckling, though small children may make a nuisance asking why something is funny!- Was this review helpful to you?
