NEEDS TO BE RELEASED!
By a customer from Aberdeen, Scotland , 09 May 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
The UK 'Queer as Folk' was brilliant when I watched it on TV and this version has 'taken the ball and ran with it', so to speak. This is not a rehash but more of a remake and it goes deeper than the British season. (Pardon the pun). The characters are even more interesting and the fact that it lasts more than 8 episodes opens up an infinite number of avenues which are explored. The acting is nothing less than excellent and this is TV addiction at it's best. Funny to boot! Take it from me, you don't have to be gay to like this programme. I had to buy it from America but I think they should release it over here. Due to innadequate marketing, this version of the show has not been as successful in the U.K as it really should be.- Was this review helpful to you?

(27)Not one for the homophobics
By a customer , 03 Jan 2012Queer as folk is not a series to dilute or keep down what really happens in the life of gay men, and it doesn't have to, gay men fall in and out of love, party late into the night, make jokes, break hearts, cry, bleed and even commit like any other straight couple.
With his cast of unique characters and actors, it really is another L word.
The only down side to this series is the fact that it shows a lot of gay love, not for anyone who isn't as open minded or is unsettled by these things.... but you can still skip the love scenes and still be entertained by the thrills, laughs and good drama that always happens in this show.- Was this review helpful to you?

Queer As Folk Works as N.American Series
By a customer , 25 Jun 2011Having been a big fan of the UK original (I particularly loved Aiden Gillan's portrayal of Stewart) I was somewhat sceptical about a N.American version - but am very glad I gave it a go. was very close to the original in some ways - if anything, the club scenes were even better! - but it took the story lines in some surpising directions without being too treacly. If anything, it deat in more depth with g&l issues and was also much funnier than I expected. I loved Emmett! And no, they didn't tone the sex down, of either the boys or girls, hooray! Particularly good was that the lesbians were much more interesting and nicer than in the UK version. Some big surprises, good and tragic... I won't spoil it for you.- Was this review helpful to you?

Poor copy of the UK version
By DrWho_Freak from London, England , 16 Oct 2010Having watched and enjoyed the UK version of Queer as Folk, I was really looking forward to seeing the US version.
It took me 2 attempts to watch the first episode and it just didn't keep my interest.
By the time I started the second episode, I found myself in similar circumstances where it just didn't keep my interest.- Was this review helpful to you?

An okay gay TV Series
By Daz from Hertfordshire, England , 23 Jun 2010Everything about this is okay. Acting is okay, plot is okay, attractiveness of the actors is okay (Probably less then okay actually...)
It's also exactly the same as the british version, its just the Nathan character is much less fit...and the other two are fitter.
Don't bother renting if you have seen the british version.- Was this review helpful to you?

Addictive and magnificent!
By Lewzo (43 reviews) from Leicester , 11 May 2010This is by far the best gay TV I've ever seen! Even some of my straight mates would find that amused and fantastic not because it a fantasy but it's a very open minded, highly confident and very educated things to watch. Even me as a gay man, I didn't get out much or know what to do or what to say when I'm out in a similar situation. I won't go on about the programme but I can say it was funny, interesting, shocking, well educated, unexpected and so addictive!! If you like to see a bit of gay hunk, bit of dorothy, and bit of drama, this is the one!- Was this review helpful to you?
