The year's undiscovered horror masterpiece... sure to send shivers up the spine.
Like The Ring, and Audition, this film is permeated throughout with a sense of dread and fear. With a minimum use of gore, and the emphasis on atmosphere, this is like Full Metal Jacket meets The Grudge. Although I can see how some viewers may feel short-changed by the lack of explanation and resolution, I felt it strengthened the experience - s**t happens, just enjoy the ride!
R-Point is an entertaining and enjoyable film, which is bloody at times, has some good looking and impressive scenery/sets, some occasional humour, and an interesting story. IT is somewhat confusing though, with nothing really explained in the end. There is also no real character development (most of the characters are one-dimensional) and therefore for the most part you cannot tell one soldier from another. The acting is pretty good, but most of the soldiers do seem to be over-acting for most of the movie. Not a bad film, and probably a little bit better on the whole than Deathwatch, but in the end you are left feeling that there was an interesting idea which was never really used to its full potential.
