    The war on terror

Like The Ring, and Audition, this film is permeated throughout with a sense of dread and fear. With a minimum use of gore, and the emphasis on atmosphere, this is like Full Metal Jacket meets The Grudge. Although I can see how some viewers may feel short-changed by the lack of explanation and resolution, I felt it strengthened the experience - s**t happens, just enjoy the ride!

    An enjoyable film

R-Point is an entertaining and enjoyable film, which is bloody at times, has some good looking and impressive scenery/sets, some occasional humour, and an interesting story. IT is somewhat confusing though, with nothing really explained in the end. There is also no real character development (most of the characters are one-dimensional) and therefore for the most part you cannot tell one soldier from another. The acting is pretty good, but most of the soldiers do seem to be over-acting for most of the movie. Not a bad film, and probably a little bit better on the whole than Deathwatch, but in the end you are left feeling that there was an interesting idea which was never really used to it’s full potential.

    Predictable Stuff.

Entertaining, but very predictable tale of soldiers sent to look for missing troops during Vietnam War. Some genuinely creepy moments are not really used to the full as it becomes evident that something supernatural is going on. One to watch if you like the genre cross over films, but not one to get too excited about.

    A little disappointing

R Point uses the The Blair Witch Project as a reference on the dvd cover and this is understandable but slightly hopeful.

A group of Korean soldiers are sent out into the jungle to search for a platoon which went missing several months earlier yet seem to be sending distress signals. R point is the area to which they are sent, alleged to be holy ground free from any military presence.

Whilst a little creepy at times it fails to scare or even create any degree of dread or apprehension. As a war movie it's actually quite well done and the appearance of the ghostly soldiers is a little spooky but overall it's pretty predictable and, like the soldiers, the film finds itself going round in pointless circles with no real satisfaction at the end.

If you want horror then Tartan Asian have a hell of a lot more to offer, if you want a war movie this will only do if you've seen everything else and if you want the Blair Witch... ... then watch The Blair Witch.

    Yeah....

This film tries to be a cross between a war movie and recent Eastern horror flicks. Sadly, it doesn't quite manage to fully convince as either, despite a hearty effort.

It's not that R Point is a bad film, it's just that the 2 genres don't fully gell.

It is quite good but it's not as good as it somehow promises.

    Genius

Exactly what you would expect from a Tartan movie - violent, a bit spooky and lots of surreal action.

A confusing film that even reaching the end of didn't really make things clear, but it was massively enjoyable.

    Great ghost story!

A radio transmission is received, from a platoon,of soldiers that disappeared in the mysterious r-point.

Thats the premise of this korean modern ghost story, and it works very well, set against the korean involvement in the vietnam war.

The locations are excellent and the house or mansion used is such an eerie sight and place.

The story can be a little hard to follow, but this has some very creepy and chilling moments, the american soldiers coming out of the mist etc! The quality of the tartan dvd is good with adequate extras and commentary.

Much better than most of its kind, and better than deathwatch thats for sure, but as the filmakers say they could have done so much more with a bigger budget, and being allowed more props thru customs into cambodia.

this would do well if it was remade by a western studio, but set in vietnam again.

oh and how could anyone rent this and not know its subtitled!

Superior chills from a genuinely creepy Korean Horror!

Korea has been producing excellent cinema for quite a number of years now and R-Point certainly deserves to make the list of 'Must-See' Korean Movies. A really atmospheric and chilling psychological horror that goes relatively light on the gore but amps the chill factor to the max with really superb and shiver inducing music and sound effects. Set during the Vietnam War, in 1972, it has a simple premise. A small group of Korean soldiers are sent to the titular R-Point, or more correctly Romeo Point, which is an area of an isolated island, just off the Vietnamese mainland. They are ordered to investigate the disappearance of a previous troop, who were thought to have died but still keep sending really spooky radio messages to HQ, demanding assistance. The creep factor is played to the max and the remote and spooky location is very well shot and edited, to give you cold shivers and goosebumps. The acting is very, very good and the story hangs together very well. It delivers a satisfying conclusion and leaves your nerves jangling! In DTS, the soundtrack is incredibly effective. Sit back on a wet, windy and dark evening to enjoy this superior ghost story but be prepared for your nerves to be shredded!

    Like anything, K-Horror gets old

I've enjoyed a lot of the Korean and Japanese horror films. Stuff like The Ring and The Grudge offered a nice antidote to the repetetive American genre offerings. But like those, even the foreign stuff is starting to appear tired and weary. R-Point really offers nothing new, with an empty plot and emptier chills. From whispering radios to pale, long-haired women, you've really seen everything here, and done far better elsewhere. If you like horror that gets under your skin, look somewhere else - R-Point dissapoints.
