Stunning performance from Kidman

I have no doubt that the worst thing that can happen to someone is the loss of their child. It's also not a subject that will get people flooding to the cinema simply because of how grim that world can be but if you don't see this film you will be making a big mistake.
Nicole Kidman is fantastic as a grieving mother as are the rest of the cast , Aaron eckhart , Dianne Wiest and Miles Teller.
This is a very emotional movie and you cant helped but be moved by what happens in Becca & Howie's world and the way their relationship unfolds after the death of their son. Its both fascinating and strangely therapeutic.
Why this was not up for an Oscar is beyond me , perhaps the subject was just too much for some people.

By Storymaker (15 reviews) , 22 May 2013Im a big fan of John Cameron Mitchell's work and i have to say this film was unlike any of his previous such as 'shortbus' and 'Hedwig and the angry Inch'. I didn't dislike this film but it wasn't memorable and although touched me in places didnt dig deep into the human emotion. I would advise a watch, see for yourself, a good film, but lacks some qualities which would make it great!- Was this review helpful to you?

Good grief

Whilst he clings on to the past, she is tortured by it and their separate journeys threaten to split them forever. Reminiscent of Ordinary People and The Accidental Tourist, this film examines the pain of losing a child with intelligence, wisdom and a lightness of touch which is moving but never depressing. A film about parental bereavement

Both Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart are superb as parents coping with the death of their 4 year old son who was run over accidentally by a local teenager when the 4 year old ran out into the road to chase after the family dog. The film also tackles the amount of couples that break up because of the death of their child (see Sandra Oh and her partner) and has very moving scenes between the teenager responsible for the childs death and Kidman as she tries to convey they have forgiven him and he tries to tell her he wishes he had never been driving on their street that day. The scenes with the bereavement group are also engrossing as well as the scenes between Kidman and her mother Dianne Wiest when they talk about the brother/son their lost to heroin addiction. A great movie if you are in the right frame of mind.- Was this review helpful to you?

Difficult subject matter...

A great film about every parents's worst nightmare
