    [Highly rated reviewer]

The Raid on Entebbe is an exciting television movie, that combines great action and thrills, with moving drama and great performances. It's another movie that represents the modern day problem of international terrorism and how it affects many people. What's great about it is how the tension builds, starting off as a normal group of people on a plane going on holiday, but then taking a terrifying turn of events, the plane is hijacked by a bunch of cut-throat Palestinian terrorists. The film does not give any background to the Israeli invasion of Palestine, so you don't have any sympathy in the film for the motives of the hijackers. But it is hard to feel sympathy for the Palestinians when they treat the passengers with such inhumanity.

For a long time in the film you think all hope is lost, but then you get a glimmer of hope as the Israeli Special Forces go on their mission to save the hostages and defeat the terrorists. The mission is difficult, the stakes are high, as the Jewish hostages have been separated from the non-Jewish hostages, putting them in extra danger, with explosive devices dangling above them. And with armament and back-up from Ugandan soldiers, under Idi Amin, who becomes a puppet for the terrorists.

It is directed by Irving Kerschner of Star Wars Empire Strikes Back fame, Charles Bronson is a general in the Israeli army, and a young James Woods is one of the commandos. Also with a stirring Israeli war song accompanying them on the mission, even if you can't understand it you still feel excited by it.

Two thumbs up, highly recommended. Quite violent and not for the faint of heart, but a good film. Give it a try.

The film was good but the copy i had was in such poor condition it made the whole experience less pleasurable than it should have been, hopefully mine was just a rogue. Good performances from the crew if a bit long winded and a tad dated

An excellent film, which stays very close to the historical chain of events, giving anyone interested in Middle Eastern or African history a very good introduction to the Entebbe rescue and a dramatic action film for the general viewer. Yaphet Kotto's portrayal of Idi Amin is outstanding.

I looked forward to this movie because I remember it from Jan 2008 when it was on channel 5. But this Rental DVD version looks as though it`s been copied from a 3rd geneation video I watched 30 mins of it & sent it back. If you want eye strain watch it, otherwise don`t bother.

Well, if you want to really cock-up a classic on DVD, then release it as a DVD copy of a bad VHS version. Just what were the distributors of this film thinking when they released this. Well, apart from quite obviously wanting to cash in by saving on quality. This is an excellent, if pro-jewish and jingoistic, movie with an exceptional all-star cast. It's the type of release that should be given a restored special edition. Unfortunately, it most probably never will. So, in the meantime, we'll have to out up with this version of the gripping tale of the Israeli raid to rescue hostages from an airliner trapped by Idi Amin in Uganda. There are some genuine surprises along the way with respect to those who actually survive the military action with a real surprise death towards the end. But, with this being a VHS copy DVD, the night-time sequences-most of the action ones- are wishy washy at best and there is a tremendous amount of VHS style fuzzy edging. Two star fare, I'm afraid. Not for the movie. But, for the quality of the disc.
