Railway Roundabout 1962

Whilst this DVD is not too good from a video quality point of view, the content is fine, and memory provoking. If you're the wrong side of 50 then this is one to watch.

I can remember watching this programme as a very young railfan. I can even still recall the theme tune & presenters so it must have made quite an impression on me! Upon viewing this DVD I was somewhat disappointed to find that the format consisted of extracts from film taken for the show rather than actual episodes from the series. That aside the subject matter was fascinating recalling an ever changing rail scene about to disappear forever. However the the interesting commentary was almost completely obscured by the dubbed on sound effects. The actual dubbing was really poor. Seeing an image of an engine puffing at high speed but hearing the sound of one coasting spoilt the viewing experience for me. That aside one must be grateful that the original material is of high quality & we must therefore be grateful to messers Whitehouse & Adams for that. One can only hope that at sometime in the future this series is looked at again to address some of the points I have raised.
