Bollyrobinhood!

I enjoyed this one. Bollywood version of Robin Hood originally Hollywood style with Kevin Costner; some of the sequences are recognisable copies but this did not distract from my enjoyment. Robin Hood aka Costner becomes Raj Kumar aka Anil Kapoor with spectacular heroic fights against overwhelming odds in true Bollywood style. Maid Marian is replaced by Madhuri Dixit who provides her usual dominant accomplished delightful presence with lots of song and dance numbers. Nasirudeen Shah as the wicked Vizier is reliable, but does not catch the comically wicked take of Alan Rickman as the Sherrif of Nottingham. The vivid colour and the dance numbers are an extra pleasure. The arrow shooting was magically accurate. Although the tale is particularly familiar since I was born in Nottingham, I thoroughly enjoyed the Bollywood transformation, hyperbole and all. The only disappointment was the sound quality which was below standard. Good triumphs, the wicked meet a well deserved end, and I was left with a pleasant glow. (3)Quite good
By a customer from Slough, England , 17 Apr 2007I liked this film although the quality of the dvd was not great. Madhuri danced beautifully, looked pretty but overweight.- Was this review helpful to you?

Not what you'll expect...
By JohnnyRoss (373 reviews) from Leeds , 06 Feb 2006This is a 'Dharam-Veer' type of movie - full of myth and magic yet conventional at the same time. It's ultimately about love and its lack of boundaries; another Romeo & Juliet scenario with a backdrop of royalty power-hungry folk. Performances by Dixit and Kapoor are sincere. The music is awful, barring the ripped track from George Michael - Faith - and the closing Tandav music. Seen much better, but then again, with Madhuri on the reins, you'll want to see this one.- Was this review helpful to you?
