This is atypical Stravinski. I find it tremendously tuneful with lots of very memorable musical phrases which continue going through my head long after. It is always fun with lots going on all the time. It must be great fun to be a member of the chorus, 3 very different roles to take on. One snag with this production is that the designer must have been unaware that it would be filmed. The stripey sets caused a lot problems for the eyes. But apart from this there was a lot of imagination shown. I do tend to have one reservation about this opera. It is in theory a very poignant story but because it is kind of cartoony this often doesn't really come over. However in this production Felicity Lott is so good as Anne Truelove that I found the final scene in Bedlam truly moving, and I even warmed to Tom.
