Brandon Lee may have lacked the martial arts grace of his father, but there was no denying his charisma, and this serviceable action thriller offered him the opportunity to make the transition from straight-to-video star to a man with genuine box-office appeal. There's not much subtlety involved in this story about a college student who finds himself on the run from villainous Nick Mancuso, but the production values are a notch above the usual B-movie action adventures, and director Dwight H Little ensures that the constant flow of fights and shoot-outs hides any holes in the story. Lee, whose career was tragically cut short when he was killed while filming The Crow, doesn't take things too seriously and shows that he was cut out to become one of the more interesting action stars.

    • Radio Times
  • Cliché-ridden action movie whose only point of interest is that it stars Bruce Lee's son, although he has yet to acquire his father's charisma.

Rapid Fire: Rapid on action, not exactly firing on plot

Brandon Lee (son of Bruce Lee) stars in this martial arts / action flick about an art student who inadvertently witnesses a drug lord 'whack' another drug dealer.

The film then follows Lee trying to escape assassination by the drug lord and his minions. His escape isn?t helped by a clich?d cop who has (surprise surprise) spent the last 10 years trying to catch a particular drug dealer at the expense of his personal life (hmmm that?s an original character!) and insists on putting Lee in a dangerous situation to try and flush out information from said dealer.

Not exactly Oscar winning stuff but as you would expect from the Lee dynasty the martial arts are great, but the acting from most of the cast is a little wooden.

The extras on the DVD are virtually non-existent, with just the trailer as a special feature, but the picture and sound are good.

Would I watch this film again? Possibly...would I recommend it? Yeah, it?s a good film for when you want action and don't really want to engage your brain!

For a better, (although much darker film) with Brandon Lee, look out for his final film, The Crow ? utterly brilliant on many levels.
