Ravenous

A cowardly American soldier (Guy Pearce) is stationed at an isolated military outpost with a bunch of misfits in Sierra Nevada following the Mexican-American War in 1847. When a dazed survivor (Robert Carlyle) of an unfortunate mountain expedition shows up at the outpost, it isn't long before he reveals himself to be a murderous madman with a taste for human flesh. RAVENOUS is an offbeat, blackly comic, and extremely bloody effort from director Antonia Bird (PRIEST).

What's this — a cheery cannibal comedy? Priest director Antonia Bird's stunning mix of gut-spilling gore and Carry On-style banter is a shocker that you'll either love for its edgy tone, or absolutely hate because it's so in-your-face. Inspired by the tragic Donner Pass disaster of 1846-7, the film stars Robert Carlyle as a devious maneater who decimates the inhabitants of a mountain outpost to keep human flesh on his winter menu. Containing as many surprises as Scream and all the hilarity of Austin Powers, Bird's highly disturbing and thought-provoking film features a couple of impeccable performances. Carlyle etches the strongest portrait of pure evil since Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs, while Guy Pearce is equally brilliant as the army captain who tries to stop Carlyle's bloodthirsty exploits before he becomes addicted to the same diet. The insane climax is yet another off-kilter delight in this intensely hilarious chiller.

    I Eat Cannibals

Brilliant! Great story, great ending, great acting, great gore! Great music (by Damien Albarn!)! This film will put a big grin across your face.

I'm just a bit worried, because it makes human flesh look quite edible. In a nice big stew. Or a thai curry... Tastes just like chicken... ssssss.

    Not for Vegetarians

A great, twisted, rich meaty, darkly comic film. More thriller than horror, with great performances from Robert Carlyle, Guy Pearce, and the other stellar cast members. Witty script, and a great musical score from Michael Nyman and Damon Albarn. Highly recommend you get your teeth into this gem!
