First real British rock opera?
By a customer from London , 24 Aug 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
Forget 'Tommy' and 'Quadrophenia', Ray Davies 1980's tv drama 'Return to Waterloo' is probably the closest thing to a genuine British rock opera. Davies story of a middle aged male commuter coming to terms with his life - his dull job, stale marriage and teenage runaway daughter - in the course of a train journey delves into the British psyche using fantasy and paranoia in a manner worthy of Dennis Potter. The songs, mainly from the Kinks classic album 'Word of Mouth', are the best Davies has written since the 60's and look out for young 'unknown' Tim Roth as a punk rocker.- Was this review helpful to you?

(3)THE UNDERRATED RAY DAVIES!
By a customer from Pinner, England , 22 Jan 2007Return to Waterloo is a shortish film written prose and music wise and directed by Ray Davies. It's a sort of detective story with real and imagined scenes. It's watchable and there are a number of familiar faces in it. The music is interesting but RD doesn't sing very much. Come Dancing is really a collection of music videos and they are very good.- Was this review helpful to you?
