A must see film, absolutely brilliant.By Jim from Bromsgrove UK , 24 Jan 2005
[Highly rated reviewer]There will be no justice if Jamie Foxx is not awarded an OSCAR for his brilliant portrayal of the late Ray Charles Robinson! He has every mannerism down to a fine art, the walk, the movement of the head, the smile...uncanny, he must have spent months researching the role.
Having loved his music over the years I am ashamed to say that I never knew the facts about Ray's fight against racism or his fight with heroin or indeed his lifelong friendship with Quincy Jones.
This film shows Ray Charles's life, demons and all, as it turned out he was a very shrewd businessman who gave millions to charity. Some other good strong performances by the support actors and singers.
For watchers of 'The West Wing' watch out for Richard Schiff (Toby) in his role as the partner in Atlantic Records - minus the beard.
A soon as this film is released on DVD get it, you will not be disappointed. I cannot wait to see the DVD extra's and deleted scenes.
Enjoy the music and the film, you will not be disappointed!

Triumph over adversity!By Kat_68 (4 reviews) , 16 Feb 2013Fantastic film. He had a really hard start, witnessing his brother's death and then going blind but he overcame all the odds and rose to the top. Jamie Foxx was brilliant - we felt as if we were actually watching Ray Charles himself. A great film.
Really enjoyed thisBy a customer , 06 Dec 2012Excellent film, brilliant acting. Good music. Foxx was very convincing. Learnt a lot about the history of the time in which the film was set.
What'd I Say? Great.By Cato (774 reviews) from Lydbury North , 06 Mar 2012A great film, which isn't something I say about most biopics, especially those dealing with musicians. But everything about this film is spot on, the acting, the story, the direction and in particular the music. However Ray Charles managed to come up with such great songs, bearing in mind his beginnings and his physical problems is incredible, and the story of his life is so sympathetically and honestly handled. Very very good.
Really good film.By ab64 (42 reviews) from suffolk , 05 Mar 2012fantastic film. Not knowing much about Ray Charles but knowing that Jamie Foxx had done a great job by reading the other reviews I had an open mind about the film. I enjoyed it from start to finish, Jamie Foxx played him with passion, soul and great character. I knew alot of the songs but didnt realise they were Charles' hits. I felt sad about the drug addiction and his wife, who knew everything he got up to on the road but still wanted him to be a father to the children and put up with his antics. Definitely worth a watch, great story.
Foxx's finest film to date.By DistantRed (11 reviews) from Jersey , 09 Dec 2011Great movie, not a fan of Ray's music, but didn't know how many of his songs i'd heard before, what a great songwriter he was.
The style of the film is similar to the Joaquin Phoenix 'Johnny Cash' film, and Ray's life also has several similarities to that of Johnny. Jamie Foxx delivers a superb performance.
Think i'll go and buy the soundtrack cd, cracking watch.
