It is interesting to compare and contrast this with Fringe, which also tries to pretend that is has a basis on real world science, but which turned out more like 'X Files meets Torchwood'.

As someone with Masters degree in Public Health myself I enjoyed this and the first series immensely, and applaud its attempt to create a drama series that does have some basis in real science, while having that 'Doomwatch/Day After Tomorrow' feel.

I suspect that for some viewers the grounding in real patholgy and epidemiology might make it not exciting enough (no aliens) , or too repetitive (lots of people standing about in labs shaking test tubes), but for anyone really tired of dumbed own television and wanting something with a modern setting, proper character development , and plenty of disaster scenario plotting, this fits the bill nicely.

The story arc is not quite as apocalyptic as in series one, with more personal background on the main characters combined with some paranoia about the military -industrial complex in North America for conspiracy theorists.

I see it has made it to series three, so someone must be watching it, although I suspect that by now I am not the only viewer with the urge to throw a large bucket of cold water over 'Dr Sandstrom'
