Arh Rebus - how we love
The chain smoking, beer drinking detective who Ian Rankin made from his imagination is so familar to us in his books so now re-invented by Stott is flesh and bone. The DVD has two of the best A plot lines - Rankin put in not just a b but a c, d and e story. But for TV it was made simplier - we know Rebus is like a unicorn - a man isolated and alone. He tires to give up smoking and drinking but hey its Glasgow for god sake. He tries romancing lovely ladies but they toy and exploit his heart. Stott is excellently gritty and his relationship with his younger colleagues is real, and his relationship with his boss is all too common in public service work places. He has watched everyone get promotion over him. Dark and bitter and totally wonderful. Watch them and enjoy the Rankin Experience.
