"scary"? Erm, where??

This film is one of the worst films i've had the misfortune to watch. I bought into the whole 'most scary film in a long time' BS but what i saw was just laughable.

The acting's poor, the characters are annoying and there are just no scary moments in it. NONE. As much as everyone slags off The Blair Witch Project i think it's far better than this.

If you want a scary film rent Switchblade Romance. Far,far better than this garbage!

And the US version 'Quarentine' looks scene by scene the same. It'll just have more annoying characters.

The Spanish Zombie Project

My expectations were extremely high for this film and it didnt disappoint!!

I loved the Blair Witch and after sitting through Cloverfield i feared nothing would ever come close but...

This film has it all - scares, shocks, uneasy laughter and a cracker of an ending.

It starts off slow, building up the usual characters, setting etc then erupts into a claustrophobic hell-fest. The zombies are slightly less energetic than the ones in the 'Dawn' remake and '28 days/weeks later', but definately got more bite than the Romero ones. Whether thats a bad thing you be the judge but either way its not going to effect a great film! I wouldn't say that there is really anything new here, its just been refined into a superb film.

The lead women is gorgeous which always helps (for me)! The rest of the characters are great and offer good little sub-plots. The explanation of the 'zombies' is a great idea and deserves 5stars just for that. Why the 4star review? Well i couldnt give 4.5 and the film isn't perfect with the POV camera shots sometimes too convenient/staged to be taken seriously. Also although the ending was great i feel that (without spoiling it) the protagonists could've maybe done a bit of the old ultra-violence rather than trying to sneak out! (you'll know what i mean when you see it)

Where Blair Witch used suggestion to scare this film uses a sledgehammer handle to the face, however the film is just as effective!

Dont be put off with the subtitles see this film now!

The film is totally in spanish.

A total waste of time renting this movie!

What a load of crap

I should of looked at the feedback for this film would of saved me a wast of time. I turned it off after 5 mins watched it for 3 and scaned for 2 mins how can you watch and enjoy a movie if ur having to read what every one is saying you miss most of the film.

Oh Dear

It was the sub-titles that put me off!!!!.Watched at x2 and followed story.Not too bad really but somewhat predictable.

Strong Spanish horror

There seems to be a current fad of films which play in a documentary or home video style. Cloverfield successfully did such with the monster movie, and Romero's Diary of teh Dead tried to do the same for low budget zombie horror. [Rec] gives a Spanish offering to the genre of zombie-home-cam films. [Rec] follows Angela, a reporter for a late night public interest TV show, and her cameraman Pablo as they join a local fire station for the evening, to report on what goes on during a typical night. However they are in for a less than typical night when called out to a disturbance in an appartment building. Investigating the disturbance one of the officers on the scene gets bitten by a crazy old lady, and the group (including the residents) find themselves under quarantine. Unable to leave the building, they instead must fight to survive against the threat within.... The hand-held documentary style works well here, giving us a feel (as with Cloverfield) of seeing some surviving footage from a real incident. He catch glimpses of events, and also overhear standard topics of conversation. We are Pablo, following the scenes, trying to capture everything on film for the show, as things get worse and worse for the survivors. What is really noticable is the lack of music. In an age when horror overuses orchestra to tell us to jump or be scared, it is more unnerving to be plunged into total silence when the camera is knocked about, being able to see someone scream, but not hear it, or trying to pick out the minutest of sounds when unable to see clearly. The effect really draws you in, and gets you involved in the story unfolding. Some truely disturbing moments and shocks play well, and make this another strong foriegn horror film.

The one type of film i absolutly hate is a subtitled one, so i cannot give this an honest review. I turned it off as soon as i new. Wish i had known in advance.
