Red Dust is a dark gritty and intense piece of a drama. A Tom Hooper film set in South Africa during The Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The story concerns a black South African victim of the apartheid era ( Chiwitel Ejiofor) and his lawyer (Hilary Swank) who now seeks the truth from the man (Jamie Bartlett) seeking reconciliation for his crimes. Swank lends beautiful intelligence to this film and Ejiofor gives a just performance. The film takes time to develop toward the first twist in narrative but soon finds its way to the plot. At times the film lacks presence and the dialogue is often laboured. The emotion of the piece along with a well delivered score makes this film the genuine article in its attempt to capture and depict a vital piece of history.
