red dwarf revisited
By a customer from scarborough, england , 06 Sep 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
I ordered Red Dwarf at the request of my 11 year old son who has recently discovered this comedy classic via UK Gold. I sat down reluctantly to share a pizza and a 'watch with mother' session 21st century style. To my suprise I thoroughly enjoyed the whole DVD despite finding Red Dwarf unfunny in my way off days of youth. The comic timing is brilliant, characters wonderfully unsympathetic and, suprisingly considering it's age, the material was not dated. The only downside is that instead of watching all the 'must see'films I have chosen I now have to see Red Dwarf series 2. I'm also slightly concerned that comedy I once considered 'immature' now seems like a classic - is this nostalga or am I growing into a juvenile? No matter, it is worth it to watch my son whizz around pretending to be 'cat' and 'marking' everything as his (though He can keep his smegging hands off my PS2)
Watch this, chill out and enjoy.- Was this review helpful to you?

(79)So good we bought the set
By gothicHM (40 reviews) from Herts , 21 Dec 2012I accidently stumbled on the very first episode of Red Dwarf when it was first shown on TV. I instanytly fell in love with the very British humour, the loving mockery of all those SF children shows with wobbly sets and rubber monsters. But with an edge of adult knowingness and true lol rofl ing Watching this again it has lost some of its edge, merely because later series are bolder and better. And it didn't really hit it's full stride until Kryton joined the crew. Still it is better and more intelligent than most TV comedy and deserves its place on the classic comedy pedestal.- Was this review helpful to you?

Still makes me giggle
By FawnyB (5 reviews) , 28 Nov 2011I ordered this and then worried if i had made a mistake, would this really spoil my fond memories of watching Red Dwarf when i was young.. the answer..Hell No, it was a great idea.
Yes the sets are basic but but it still makes me laugh out loud. All of the main characters, Rimmer, Lister, Cat and Holly are funny.
I cant wait to order the second series now, it reminds me of what TV was like before the plague of reality TV hit us- Was this review helpful to you?

Its still brilliant
By HammerHand (14 reviews) , 05 May 2011Dwarfers of the world unite! Remember how it used to be? The ship interiors were cheap set-dress styrofoam grey? Kryten hadnt turned up yet? Holly was a man? Although series 5 is the best, its sentimentality incarnate.- Was this review helpful to you?

By Demmio (3 reviews) from UK , 10 Feb 2011Series one is my favourite by far, especially the first episode to get the porlogoue of how everyone got to where they did. Brilliant series just a little outdated now.- Was this review helpful to you?
