Superb and very creepy performances, especially from Michael Parks and Melissa Leo. It's not like anything I've ever seen before, it's creepy, tense, action packed, explosive, funny, surprising, shocking . . . it really keeps you guessing as to where the film is heading. A very different film from the guy who brought us Jay and Silent Bob! :o)

a little slow at first but an unusual and very different film, loved the pastor character, what great voice he has, well acted and well worth a look.

Aw, Kevin Smith tried to actually make a film, who’d have thought he’d ever try. Never really saw the fuss about Smith, Clerks and Mallrats I’d file in the bin of guilty pleasures along with Derek & Clive, Chasing Amy is probably his peak (which isn’t saying much) and everything since then is at best hackwork or utterly abysmal. The behind the scenes controversies, in particular the selling of this film, don’t interest me much – like David Lynch says “you’ve got to keep your eye on the donut and not the hole”. It is difficult to separate the making of this film from the actual text though. If Red State were the work of a new young director it would be an impressive, naive, low budget debut, flawed (some misjudged pacing fairly early on especially) but with signs of promise. But this is Smith’s 10th film, and although it’s good to see him stretching himself beyond his comfort zone, it does feel a tad too little too late. Plus Smith doesn’t seem to be the most agreeable of individuals – from all reports he definitely doesn’t appear to respond well to criticism. However, all that aside it’s not actually a bad movie, I dig the politics, there’s a lot of effective direction which truly builds up tension in places and it’s a damn fine cast who acquit themselves admirably. Worth it for the very last line which made me laugh out loud and summed up the ideology of the film (for better or worse). You’d hope Smith might continue to diversify but depressingly his next film is Clerks 3 – yawn!

An interesting horror and a worryingly realistic depiction of what happens when a cult crosses the US government. Good twist ending.

The key to this film is WATCH IT, there are three parts to it, the first will have you wondering, the second part seems to go on but really sets the scene, the third is one of the most action packed thriller I have seen - totally unpredicatble and it could easily happen !
