This is a classic piece of 30's propaganda/hysteria/exploitation ! Clean cut kids get corrupted by the killer weed and descend into a world of easy sex, crazy laughing and murder!! This is a bad film on almost every level but its so bad its hilarious, its great to watch.

Theres also some great extras on the DVD, one of my particular favourites was the short silent filmlette that highlights the dangers of pot!

    heh heh....

  • A surprising glimpse

A fascinating historical piece in a number of ways. There aren't many 15 cert films from this period, and it's very unusual to come across such an explicit (for the time) attempted rape scene - but note the foot on floor in the earlier bedroom scene, in accordance with best Hayes Office practice. The documentary section near the beginning was a bonus - I'd have liked more of it - although it was odd to be told that opium and heroin were not such a social problem as marijuana; presumably marijuana was more cheaper and more readily available (and a lot of rich people took cocaine, and were riskier targets to offend). You wouldn't watch this for the acting, which seemed to owe a lot to the silent area, but the unusually graphic look at the subject must have given the picture some impact when it appeared. An under-rated gem.

If you like a smoke then you can have a chuckle at the 'drug crazed abandon' induced by marijuana addiction, but other than the almost comedic acting there is little value in watching this programme. It's to out of date and too laughably inaccurate to be used as an example of propaganda and misinformation used in the war on drugs in the 21st century. But is an interesting reminder of how we are living in a less innocent times, and how people once trusted what ever was put on film.

  • A hoot for stoners

I'd seen this before on some screen at Glastonbury when I was off my tits and really enjoyed it. I can't say I found it that fascinating in the cold light of day when I only had a can of Stella in my hand and a Marlboro light in my hand but I had a good couple of chuckles at how scared people were of the weed in those days, and how times have changed. The extras are a let-down and far too short - they looked even more amusing than the film, particularly the footage of Cab Calloway singin 'Reefer Man'.

  • Best served with tequila

A wonderful treatise on the terrors of marijuana (sic) and the terrible effect it can have on one's hairstyle.

We've rated this one a 6 after having had the pleasure of watching it in the company of tequila and friends, and it benefits enormously from the combination.

See! The highest trousers in all Christendom!

    Fear! The drug-crazed dancing frenzy!

Wonder! At the mad piano player's fervour!

    Hear! The heart-chilling final warning!
