Super 80s telly
By a customer from London , 26 Jan 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
This was a lovely example of the best of British telly from the 80s. Reilly, (Sam Neill), gets caught up in the Russian revolution and its aftermath. A great cast, Tom Bell, Sam Neill, and a whole lot of other stalwarts of British television - Clifford Rose, Hugh Fraser, Clive Merrison, Rupert Frazer. Really good production values, and scenes taking their time, instead of some of the frenetic cutting of today. Solid locations, lots of atmosphere. Good pace, lovely camera work. Just sometimes a little bit clunky compared to today's television. But perhaps that's because Tom Bell is in it, and his level of reality and presence sets the highest possible standard. Interesting story, too. And what a treat to be able to read who played who and who did what in the credits, instead of them whizzing past and causing grrs of frustration!- Was this review helpful to you?

(4)Ace of Spies The father of James Bond
By ThomasTHEMANBabayode (7 reviews) from Hayes , 08 Mar 2009I found it quite good. Too much money and advertising has been spent on the James Bond franchise, when what Hollywood needs to do is look at making a good movie about, Reilly, Ace of Spies. or better yet, they should just leave it alone. I am sure that when Hollywood gets there hand on this they would blow the story line well out of proportion and make it look like something else. Just have a look how they messed up ,'Mission Impossible'.
The film was very good and entertaining.- Was this review helpful to you?

Reilly
By Davecurtis (3 reviews) from Maidstone , 25 Apr 2008Some years ago I caught the end of this series on tv and was astonished how good it was. Now that I am able to see the entire series for the first time I am even more amazed how good it is. I have always felt Sam Neill should have been James Bond rather than Roger Moore, now i am sure. If you enjoy quality acting, great cast, brilliant storyline, and mesmerising high drama, then you have fount it. I love it. I will now have to buy yhe DVD- Was this review helpful to you?
