Tense political thriller spanning two continents. Douglas Freeman (Jake Gyllenhaal), a CIA analyst working in North Africa, starts to question his assignment when he witnesses the brutal interrogation of an Egyptian-American by secret North African police. When Anwar El-Ibrahimi (Omar Metwalley), an Egyptian-American chemical engineer whose family emigrated to the United States when he was a boy, is suspected of a terrorist act, his pregnant wife, Isabella El-Ibrahimi (Reese Witherspoon), does everything she can to find him when he seemingly disappears during a flight from South Africa to Washington, D.C. She enlists the help of an old college friend, Alan Smith (Peter Sarsgaard), an aide to Senator Hawkins (Alan Arkin), who uncovers the shocking fact that Anwar has been shipped off to a third-world country for interrogation on the orders of Corrine Whitman (Meryl Streep), the CIA's head of the anti-terrorism unit. Isabella and Douglas team up to try to secure Anwar's release from a secret detention facility somewhere in the Middle East.

Oh my god, got up and walked out half way through! Not much more to say, it just never got going. Waste of a fiver!

If it really happens it is shocking

Very good film about USA torture of suspects with flimsy evidence. Very sinister and troubling. Excellent score-like Crash. A very good thriller. Very troubling.

well worth a watch

I enjoyed this film, it kept you guessing throughout, it did however have a serious twist to it and had you on edge at times. Good cast and well worth a watch.

Gripping & though provoking

I loved this film. It keeps you thinking and guessing all the way through and a clever twist really plays with you emotions.

Well selected cast, even Gyllenhaal, who I cant stand for his lack of back bone and wet persona, portrays his character perfectly.

This movie was beautifully shot, with an interesting use of light and music.

I recommend, especially if you're interested in US politics

Don't be put off by the title

Given the publicity surrounding rendition, this film could simply have taken advantage of this. Instead, it is a well considered piece, gripping and exciting, with excellent leads and strong plot.
