RENT INDEEDBy Kevin Patten from WEST WALES , 26 Aug 2006
[Highly rated reviewer]If you watch this film you will feel like renting out your brain, believe me. I made it through the firs 20 mins or so before the mind numbing twaddle made me switch it off. Watch at your own risk. You have been warned

I say moooooooooo!By danieljparsons (118 reviews) from Ashford , 14 Apr 2010Beneath my jaded, cynical shell lies a gooey, sentimental ball of need. I'm the last person who would expect Chris Columbus of all people, with an adaptation of a Broadway musical I haven't seen, to exploit that. Okay, Rent is far from a masterpiece. Some of the songs are a little lacking, the story shamelessly pulls at the heartstrings and is borderline manipulative, and everyone's far too good looking. But there's so much love in this film, such warmth. It's one of the most positive 'commercial' films I've seen on sexuality, for a start. The cast are pretty much pitch perfect - Tracie Thoms and Rosario Dawson are particularly luminous. Columbus and the acting workshop who helped make the film stage things in unexpected, original ways. The opening number, for instance, which immediately makes no apologies for the fact that what you are seeing will be a musical. The performances are winning and the singing is exceptional (and I couldn't detect any autotune here - and the majority of the cast has previously or since performed Rent on stage). The photography is beautiful. The simple messages are conveyed effectively (albeit not always subtly). One to treasure.
a cure for insomnia!By Roadie (5 reviews) from london , 03 Apr 2010dull, long, really disappointing!
a shame as i had expected it to be great.
do yourself a favour, only rent if in desperate need of a good night's kip, as that's all it's good for unfortunately.
Don't waste your RentalBy a customer from Sheffield , 04 Jan 2010So I couldn't even bear to watch this through to the end, and I can tell you, I've watched some rubbish. I am usually a great fan of musicals. But, yeah, so just don't bother!
terribleBy Piskey (4 reviews) from Uxbridge , 28 Oct 2009One of the few films I've had to turn off. I couldn't watch it any longer.
RentBy HartleyMags (2 reviews) from Longfield , 24 Jun 2009I thought this was a really emotional film with some original music. Definitely not your typical 'musical'.
