    A Musical Horror Spectacle!

This is a pretty tough movie to review because your enjoyment of the film will be mostly down to your musical taste, however I will do my best. . .

I loved this film, I have never been to an Opera but I imagine this is the Nutcracker or Swan Lake for the horror/goth community!

There are some strong horror scenes but if you are squeamish to these kinds of things then please try to get past your aversion because you will be missing a real musical gem.

The cast are all very good, even Paris Hilton pulls through and is not a chore to watch.

It's nice to see Bill Mosely (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, The House of 1000 Corpses, The Devils Rejects) upholds his horror cult icon status although Anthony Head is the most violent person in the movie!

A massive departure from his role in coffee adverts and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

An honorable mention must go to Sarah Brightman who is a pleasure to watch and listen to and also has the two most memorable sequences in the film. It is good to see a professional opera singer lending a little bit of credibility to the picture.

I think this film will be overlooked except for by a few lucky people who will purposefully seek it out, which is a massive shame because this is the refreshing change that the dull modern cinema of today needs.

Repo - The Non Generic Opera!`

What to say? This is a film based on an opera - of sorts. Recently we have had Sweeney Todd made into a film, and it seems to have sparked a revival of musicals - some good some bad. This fits into neither category - it is simply ok. For those that might be interested, I would consider it a light version of The Rocky Horror Show. A B list cast (some would argue C list - especially with the inclusion of Paris Hilton) do well, and the film stays close to the source material, but given the ludricrous subject of said opera, it is difficult to translate this too film. Dark, moody and gory are the best ways to describe this, but I would say it was best left to the theatres. Good - for one watch.

    Hilton: 'I'll act for Tarantino'

    • 25 May 2009

Socialite Paris Hilton wants to return to the big screen - but only if she can work with legendary director Quentin Tarantino. Reality TV star Hilton has scored a number of minor movie roles including 2005 teen horror House of Wax and more recently in last year's (08) Repo! the Genetic Opera. Hilton loves Tarantino's new picture Inglourious Basterds and is adamant he is the only filmmaker who will be able to properly showcase her acting talents. She says, "I've always preferred doing reality... Read more
