A Musical Horror Spectacle!
By a customer from Winchester , 11 Jan 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
This is a pretty tough movie to review because your enjoyment of the film will be mostly down to your musical taste, however I will do my best. . .
I loved this film, I have never been to an Opera but I imagine this is the Nutcracker or Swan Lake for the horror/goth community!
There are some strong horror scenes but if you are squeamish to these kinds of things then please try to get past your aversion because you will be missing a real musical gem.
The cast are all very good, even Paris Hilton pulls through and is not a chore to watch.
It's nice to see Bill Mosely (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, The House of 1000 Corpses, The Devils Rejects) upholds his horror cult icon status although Anthony Head is the most violent person in the movie!
A massive departure from his role in coffee adverts and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
An honorable mention must go to Sarah Brightman who is a pleasure to watch and listen to and also has the two most memorable sequences in the film. It is good to see a professional opera singer lending a little bit of credibility to the picture.
I think this film will be overlooked except for by a few lucky people who will purposefully seek it out, which is a massive shame because this is the refreshing change that the dull modern cinema of today needs.- Was this review helpful to you?

(64)Not such a specticle
By NeilS (9 reviews) from Reading , 03 Aug 2012I must admit I didn't know it was musical when I added it to my list, but I watched it as I didn't have anything better to do. If you're a fan of The Rocky Horror Picture Show it will no doubt appeal but I found it only OK, certainly not brilliant, but it's down to personal taste so what do I know...- Was this review helpful to you?

It is marmite time
By darkdawn (62 reviews) from Welling , 26 Jul 2012OMG I love films of all kinds and always watch them to the end whether I am cringing at the rubbish on the screen or not. I could not do that with this film it definitely was not my cup of tea - you will either love this film or hate it! I could not concentrate on the moving image because of the singing which was unbelievable- Was this review helpful to you?

Stand up. Testify!
By Candyapocalypse (7 reviews) from Swansea , 02 Feb 2012This is a bit of a marmite film, you will either love it or hate it. I loved the music, the story and the entire dark undercurrent running through it.
Anthony Stewart Head is brilliant, but I never had a doubt on that score. The girl who plays Shiloh is also wonderful, with a voice that suits the music. Also, surprisingly, while I'm not convinced by Paris Hilton as an actress, I thought her voice was surprisingly good here.
Sarah Brightman of course remains a legend. I am also especially enamored of the Graverobber.
This is not a musical, but a gothic rock opera and a brilliant example of it.- Was this review helpful to you?

If you like singing in movies and want something fresh give it a go.
By Solfreak (2 reviews) , 30 Nov 2011I was very sceptical when I put the disc into the player.
I don't like gore and the ratings and user's reviews for this
movie wasn't very encouraging.
I started watching and immediately liked it. It's unlike anything
I've seen previously (maybe with exception of Rocky Horror
Show). Great music, interesting visual style, dark sense of
humour - it all makes very enjoyable 98min watch.
And hey, I even liked Paris Hilton in it (although I was quite
worried when I read she's starring in this)
Highly recommended.- Was this review helpful to you?
