Romeo and Juliet, anyone?
By Jivan Sharma from York, England , 13 Apr 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
This film was the aged old story of two characters falling in love from rival families, with a strong hint of Romeo and Juliet thrown in. Although nothing wrong with the actual story, certainly for it?s time, the narrative is slow and the drama doesn?t begin to unfold until the last third. (BTW - The disc seem to have about 5-10 mins missing in the middle of the movie).
I primarily watched it to see Amitabh play a mute, an important character within the story. Interesting to see him excel in his abilities by just using his gestures so early on in his career, (this was only his 5th film) and to land that role against the likes of Vinod Khanna who at the time was a bigger star than Amitabh, must have been quite an achievement.
Like Amitabh?s role, Raakhee also has a small but crucial part, but the film really belongs to the two leads ? Sunil and Waheeda. Film also stars Ranjeet, Amrish Puri (both in positive roles) and Sanjay Dutt in a cameo (as a child of course).
If you like Love Stories from that era, this is right up your street so watch it, however, as much as I appreciated the movie and liked the Qawali song, it wasn?t quite my cup of tea. I like romantic movies, but the pace has to be a little faster with some edge to the drama and with today?s music.- Was this review helpful to you?

(3)RATHER DULL.
By a customer from Basildon, Essex , 02 Oct 2006I had high hopes for this movie because of the big stars in it, but I found it very boring actually. Only highlight was seeing a very young Sanjay Dutt in the Quwali song. Give it a miss !!- Was this review helpful to you?
