Many descriptions of this film, including many a synopsis, centre around the unorthodox nature of the main character?wife, mother and worker Grazia?played by a radiant Valeria Golino, usually depicting her as free-spirited or possibly manic-depressive. After watching the film I couldn't but be struck by her normality as a human being. For me this film is much less about Grazia and her state of being and far more about a society partial to conformity, quasi-male-domination and face-saving social structures. A magically told story that, above all, celebrates the raw emotions of our species and how these can influence the way we perceive and interact with each other.
