A very enjoyable film, good versus evil.

A bit jumpy in parts and a good measure of blood and guts.

This film promised a lot but failed to deliver. It started quite well but soon it lost direction...Terence Stamp did as much as he could but when his character dies, it almost marked the film's possibilities, too. The end is totally ridiculous, almost hilarious because of the preposterous story line. Of course, you will only confirm this if you dare to watch it until the end. My best advice? This is ONE TO AVOID IT.

Please don't waste your time with this film. It showed promise in the synopsis but the reality was a slow paced film with a disappointing ending.

  • Excellent British Thriller

    Rated - 4.0 stars
By Alekseyev (6 reviews) from London , 17 Aug 2009
Well ahead of its time, i.e. before the DaVinci Code had even come out in England, this film delved into real occult and conspiracy history with a very clever idea and a romp through alchemists, freemasons, Templars et al in a quest for divine relic, the Loculus.

James Darcy and Udo Kier are brill, and a host of good cameos do their work, with an excellent Derek Jacobi and Liam Cunningham.

Yes, the plot is dense and demanding, hence some more impatient people react angrily, but they don't take the film in the spirit is intended: full blown fantasy cinema of the kind you get in Europe, not Hollywood, and certainly hardly ever Britain..

A great idea and good locations are ruined by clunky acting and implausible plot twists.
