Director Guy Ritchie's (LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS) fourth feature film is about a hard-bitten gambler named Jake Green (played by Ritchie favorite Jason Statham). Green has just spent a lengthy stretch in jail and is seeking revenge on the man who put him behind bars--crime overlord Dorothy Macha (Ray Liotta). Macha's .. Read more

Brilliant... Guy Ritchie back to his best
Slick, Stunning and Stylish
As a big Guy Ritchie fan I went to see this at the cinema with several mates when it was released and we all left totally and utterly confused. No-one spoke, no-one knew what to say. We simply just didn't see what the film was about, it was.........nothing. I'm sure there's a plot there somewhere but none of us seemed to be able to find it. In an attempt to try and work it all out I watched it again recently, but alas I still couldn't find anything that made sense and the disc got filed in the round file as I cursed at the loss of another 2 hours wasted. No words can really describe this film. It's a complete waste of time and energy, a total washout. I couldn't find any entertainment value whatsoever and highly disuade anyone from watching this tosh.
I thoroughly enjoy films in this genre, however this film gave me severe headaches.
Some films need to be watched twice to completely enjoy the full story. I could watch this film more than twenty times & I would still be at a loss.
Sorry Guy but back to the drawing board I think...
Do not expect this to be the usual Guy Richie gangster film, this is a more radical crime film than the crowd pleasing previous outings.
Although the film starts slowly, and is a touch too long, it is the intrigue which builds throughout which will keep you hooked.
The film has nods of respect to films such as The Usual Suspects, Fight Club, Kill Bill and even a slight resemblance to Pulp Fiction (the subtle biblical undertones) but remember, it is not those films. I admit there is influence from them but at least we can be glad it is not another unimaginative American remake!
If you can get past the ropey early script and beyond the fact that it is not another rehash of his first two films, you can then sit back and slip slowly further down the rabbit hole.
The more I thought about this film afterward the more it began to peel away its layers. It had people thinking and discussing its merits or deciphering its confusion long after the credits rolled.
One to watch out for is Andre (from the Rap Group Outkast), he's the one wearing the Yorkshire flat-cap for most of the film. I see this guy becoming a star of the silver screen regular.
If you want a gangster crime film to get you thinking then this is worth a look, if you want a fast paced wise cracking london gangster flick then stick to his earlier efforts.
C'mon it's not a bad as 'Swept away'...
Saw it at cinema and it was so bad we left early, i hated the style, the choice of actors and evertything. My girlfriend rented it recently and we started watching it and fell asleep half way through and both decided it was rubbish. i couldnt understand what was going on, but i was determined to watch it all the way through as my curiousity got the better of me, it took me 7 times till i eventually saw it all the way through and finally i understand the film and now i really enjoy it. The script is fantastic but im starting to cast wonders over the direction?.....maybe too many late nights with madonna? who know's. This film is very tricky and deep but i think it goes far too fast for most people to grasp, look down to the floor for a minute and the whole film is ruined. If you can grit your teeth and watch it at LEAST twice i guarentee you may find it much better, but.... really you shouldnt have to. My attention span is very minimal and any one alike i would suggest to avoid this film like the plague. There is underlying ideas and themes running all the way through that are easily missed and its impossible to pick it back up later. To sum it up: Great script, great idea, hasnt been pulled of well as it moves far to fast. Most people will probably lose the grip of what it is about, when it gets to the end you will look around the room...cough and think what the.........
But in the end if you CAN stick it out i guarantee you will enjoy it much more
seriously, if you're thinking about it, dont.
The vastly over-praised Ritchie apparently once overheard someone call him the Quentin Tarantino of the UK and it has gone completely to his head. This movie is BAD. It rips off a bunch of ideas (from Fight Club and the Usual Suspects primarily), throws in a little Kill Bill style Manga anime, and manages never to involve you or interest you at any point. A right dogs dinner. I'm sorry I have to even give it one star. Avoid at all costs and rent a real Tarantino movie, rather than this upper middle class twit's 'reimagining' of one.

Liking Guy Ritchies' previous films (Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) I sat down with a few to watch this film in excitement. When the film ended I would of felt like an idiot if it wasn't for my other firends saying things like "is that it?" and "what happend?".
The film tries to be too clever for it's own good. It uses too many diiferent cinematic effects such as different camera techniques and pointless Anime for example. If the plot wasn't difficult enough to follow, these effects make things worse.
The plot is awful with too many twists and turns that I kept getting lost. I have watched it twice now and I need to ask my self why I put myself through it a second time.
For the love of god avoid this film! I paid hard cash to see this at the flicks, don't be fooled like me. Anyone who thinks this tosh is worth more than 1 star is utterly pretentious. PS: Did I mention avoid??
Its been said that madona had a lot of artistic imput into this film, if thats the case, the only advice i can give to Mr Ritchie is get a divorce.
This film was awful, it failed to explain any of the concepts involved, the characters were stereotypical, but not enough to make it interesting, lots of weird lighting and then bang, half way through it went all manga with some cartoon sequencies.
Please do not waste your time on this trash. I would describe it as style over content, but the style was awful too.
There was one good point that a friend of mine came up with......its only 115 minutes long, it could have been 120.
I read a little while ago that Guy Richie said that the reason this film was so panned, was because 'people didn't understand it'. I would disagree with him, as I think the reason this film was panned is coz it's sh*te. And I would further add, dear Mr Richie, that it is your responsibility to MAKE us understand. We are your audience. (I bet he's going to read this review too, and cry himself to sleep tonight).
The script is like something written by Adrian Mole, and I think is meant to have some quasi-mystical sensibilities, and we are expected to sit back and light our pipes and stroke our beards and nod sagely at the significance. But it just comes off as incomprehensible cod-philosophical twaddle.
That said, I think the production design and the direction are both excellent, and great to see Mark Strong in a leading-ish role too, an actor with whom I have an in-no-way gay obsession. It's also pretty funny how obvious it is that Guy Richie wishes he was Jason Statham. Give it up geezer, we all know you're from the mean streets of Berkshire and your mum's a baroness.
Anyway. Revolver is pants, but it's frilly pants.
Well, what can I say? I read the reviews, and I had heard loads of bad stuff about this film. But then I read that the film is very clever and that only exceptionally intelligent people will understand it. So, in an attempt to prove how smart I am, I sat down to watch this and to prove all other critics wrong, by actually understanding this film. Well I guess I ain't that bright, coz the whole film was, in my opinion, total nonsense. The ending is not an ending, coz it doesn't clear up any of the of the (many) story lines.
I do have one idea of how this happened. I believe that Guy was at home one day, writing a script, and when it was finished, he placed it next to another half-finished script, suddenly a huge gust of wind blew both half finished scripts into the air, and in an attempt to help, Madonnna picked up all the papers and put them into one pile, in the wrong order, thus creating this complete mess of a film. One reviewer wrote avoid like the plague, in my view, the plague is a much better option.
P.S. Why is it called Revolver?
We looked forward with great relish to this film, thinking it would be another lock stock or the business.
It couldnt be more further away. Confusing, overly long and totally stupid plot.
GIve this one a miss unless u are totally bored on a sunday afternoon !
