If you're interested in Theatre of the Absurd, by all means try this DVD.
Rated purely as a film, and as a DVD, you'd probably switch off within minutes: this, however, has NOTHING to do with the normal cycle of what what we expect to see by way of 'film'.
To be honest, however, I'm not sure that this DVD works - EVEN as a 'period piece', a film version of an IONESCO play.
In short, I think it mis-fires on all fronts. The scene in the loo is probably funniest - but so much of it is 'stagey'.
But I'm glad to have seen it: there are 'transformation' scenes which are notable.
Headed 'IONESCO' this play MUST be good but a general viewer might find all this really pathetic - even with Zero Mostel etc..
I'm not sure that IONESCO is well-served in this DVD. How would his play work in 2005? The 1974 version is probably NOT a model version for 2005 but could YOU envisage a 2005 production of this play?
