A fast-moving, pared-down version of Shakespeare that remains true to much of the play's poetry, concentrating on political manoeuvre and successfully translating the action to a modern setting.
"...RICHARD III is a film to listen to as much as to watch....[The] design is perhaps the most imaginative and atmospheric use of locations in a British movie for a while..."
A superb adaption of the play. Atmospheric, pacey,Ian McKellan is just mesmirising, in fact the acting is brilliant across the piece. Thoroughly enjoyed watching how the original play was so cleverly adpated to a 1930 setting whilst still remaining true to the original sentiment (and indeed script!).
The costumes, music and acting were all excellent, however, unavoidably , I found the archaic language hard to follow and had to concentrate very hard to keep up with what was being said.
This is not a criticism of the production, just a note for other viewers. Only choose this film if you feel like putting in the effort to appreciate it.
