I know it's a cliche but Richard Pryor probably could have read a telephone directory out and it would have been funny. He is so watchable too, his facial expressions and hunched pace add so much to the visual aspect of his act - he didn't have to lark about like a madman like Lee Evens for example, it was always subtle and beautifully timed. Some people have funny bones, he was born to perform and is still one of the greatest comedians of all time. I preferred his Live in Concert show from 5 years previous but this is a great performance.

An amazing stand up set from an amazing comedian. I loved that he comes across as quite vulnerable but at the same time deliver some incredibly funny lines. Richard Pryor was a messed up dude but he knew it and channelled much of this into his comedy. After what appears to be genuine nerves at the beginning graduates to becoming a template in the art of stand up. His fearlessly and funny views on sex, politics and race (although in a lot of cases, very dated) made this very enjoyable.

  • Pryor still cracks me up after all these years!

I grew up listening to records of Richard Pryor which may explain why I got told off at school for the things I'd repeat...

His stand-up captures generations, a moment in time, fragments of a politics and a society of the day. If you appreciate the context in which he performed perhaps the more you can get out of his shows, but straight taking it for what it is it's still funny as f***.

Pryor deals with race, racism, gender, crime, relationships and family with talent, honesty and damn good timing. A must see, no matter who you are.

    'Racism is a b*tch.'

not bad not great either - a lot of time spent talking about his drug addiction and a lot of bollox that means nothing to most people -

there were better r pryor performances than this in my opinion.

if i had paid to be in the audience that night, i would have felt pretty disappointed.

but, hes a likeable character and its his natural charisma that keeps you watching.
