And so The Ring has come full circle...
By David Gray from Clackmannanshire, Scotland , 01 Mar 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Ring 0 is a prequel to the Ring films, featuring Sadako as a teenager who joins a drama club. Alienated from everyone else, they start to resent the fact that the director believes she has talent and that she is getting all of his attention. Meanwhile a reporter is investigating Sadako's mother but soon realises that Sadako herself is very strange... And that's when the deaths start occuring...
This film completely contradicts what was shown in the previous Ring films, with Sadako palyed by am older teen in this film. If this were true to Ring lineage, then Sadako was drowned around the age of 10-12, which just adds more to the convulated plot of the series as a whole.
The story plays out like Carrie somewhat, with Sadako being picke on by her fellow students and her using her powers to wreak her revenge. However, it just isn't that terribly interesting and it isn't until the last ten minutes that the plot bothers to return to that of the previous Ring films.
If this film was it's own individual, rather than part of the Ring series, it may have been OK. However, in giving it the Ring title, certain expectations are expected of it, and these expectations were not met at all.
Despite the lead actresses strong role as Sadako, this film falls flat on it's face. This is not a true Ring film and as such cannot be judged as such. There is no point in getting this if you expect another wild ride like the original.- Was this review helpful to you?

Creepy Japanese Horror with Subtitles - Awesome
By RaggedEdge (15 reviews) , 24 Feb 2013Fantastic film and definately worth the watch. I have no idea why it is classed as World Cinema - Italian. It is a Japanese Horror film and is in Japanese with English Subtitles. Fantastic. I so prefer these films in their original language rather than dubbed. Watch at night, with the heating off, in the dark with friends who don't talk through the film and who really appreciate the genre. Epic!- Was this review helpful to you?
