Just can't watch it again
By PeaceNick from Hampshire , 17 Mar 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
I did buy this DVD after watching it the first time, but in a year have only just got past taking off the cellophane. I still see the final scene every time I close my eyes.
I don't know what some people define as horror, but it's certainly not butchery - that's just news.
This film is horrific because not a drop of blood is spilt, no one jumps out at anyone and no one runs away from anything. There's no other way to describe it than a creeping terror.
If you didn't think it was frightening, watch it sober, without a break, alone, in the dark, in the countryside, without a sound - other than the wind moaning softly down the chimney, the doors shifting in their frames, the branch of a tree gently tap, tap, tapping on the window...- Was this review helpful to you?

Better then the flashy hollywood remake. an original gem
By Xanderxavier (2 reviews) from Peterborough , 21 Feb 2012I watched this film years before, Hollywood got wind of it, having watched the Hollywood edition, since I can say I still much prefer this original, having watched films of all kinds since a child and being a decent sized man, rarely are horror films anything but comedies to me, however this one was a gem that got to me when I first watched it, it doesn't have a big fx budget or fancy graphics, so its impact is based on acting and the brilliant script, full of lovely suspense, but if you watch it at night with the lights off for the first time and look for more than just flashy graphics in a film it'll be a much more enjoyable watch and allot scarier then the flashy but not at all scary Hollywood remake.- Was this review helpful to you?

watch this before the american version
By a customer , 17 Feb 2012its probably best to watch this before watching the American version which was a lot better in terms of special effects, more detailed storyline etc, because I had watched that version first I found this a little disapointing, however would still recommend giving it a go.- Was this review helpful to you?

Boo Boo
By ax (58 reviews) from birmingham , 12 Feb 2012Horror trilogy begins, amazing how the story gets more richer in the series, slow in a very cool way. Cannot wait for Blu-Ray.- Was this review helpful to you?

Watch the Hollywood remake instead - much better!
By musicmanofkent (4 reviews) , 09 Jan 2012Seriously - what is all the fuss with this film? Watch the remake instead - it is much much better. This is so not scary at all. The Hollywood remake however is a genuine nightmare inducing tension fest.- Was this review helpful to you?
