A great look behind the scenes of the seriously outrageous Jerry Springer Show - but with full tongue in cheek. As the script admits, we trawl the shallow end of the great gene pool, following the stars of Jerry's episode 'Are You Having An Affair With Your StepDaddy?' (Er, ...yes...) Fun, fights, sudden affairs and betrayal and redemption ensue, and that's just in the hotel the night before the show.

A slice of American life, says Jerry, and trailer trash have as much right to hurt on national TV as the rich and famous, Funny, but with a heart of gold, watch this great movie, then take care of yourself - and each other.

  • A bizarre exercise in post-modernism

In which Jerry Springer plays a Jerry Springer type talk show host (really badly too), whilst also treating us - if that's the word - to the kind of people who feature as guests on his type of show. Actually Springer's presence is more a distraction than anything else, and the raunchy goings-on aren't half as entertaining as what normally goes down on his real show. Hard to assess whether it's being critical of the 'guests' or indulging them, and the thing is so broadly played as to make it difficult to gauge, though it does allow Jerry an ill-judged tirade against his own critics that comes across as the most fake part of the film.

I liked the film, which is basicly a fictional look behind the scenes at the Jerry Springer show, but the picture quality seems rather poor for a DVD.
