Not As Good As It Thinks It Is

Firmly aimed at the male demographic, Rise - Blood Hunter is a vampire film in the mould of Blade. Except without the cool martial arts. Or supernatural strength. Or humour. Or fun for that matter.

The film follows the actions of Sadie Blake, previously a reporter, now a vampire out to get revenge on the ones that tortured and turned her. And that's about it. There's a little time spent on Sadie's reaction to discovering her 'condition' and how she adapts to her new eating habits but this is done quickly and sporadically through flashbacks.

The overiding impression when watching Rise is that underneath what we're seeing is a pretty decent story, but it is hindered by lack-lustre performances, and non-linear editing. Personally I would have liked to have seen this film in chronological order, working towards the moment of Sadie's revenge, but alas we must join Sadie on her wanderings down memory lane instead. And this raises (see what I did there?) another problem with the film - Lucy Liu. Normally a funky addition to casts, here she sleepwalks through her role and struggles with the dull dialogue she's been given. Ironically, she repeats the word 'slow' many times throughout the film, which is a pretty good description for it as a whole. In fact none of the cast really seem to be sinking their teeth into their roles (okay, I'll stop now) but it's not entirely suprising considering the clunky script.

Rise is not the worst vampire film out there, but it certainly is a strong contender. Redeeming features are few, though the amount of naked flesh (particularly Lucy Liu's) will tick some peoples boxes. And the amount of blood will tick others. But overall I can't recommend this as a great example of a vampire movie - approach with extreme caution.

Bad,bad,bad!!!

Really bad. I only watched 20mins and it was just to painfull. I NEVER turn films of so let this be a warning to you!!!!!

Grate

I wonted to give this fil five sars. A Girl gets bit by a vampire and wakes up in a morg. She wont's to kill the vampire who turned her. She also trys to hold back her therst for blood. Whith a good cast. It has some good momonts though it is too long and and duse not quite hold it together in places. Though please do try this film it is very good and if it had not bin too long it would have the 5 star

Surprised

Almost didn't get this out because of the bad reviews but glad we did as we thought it was a very good story, well - told with good characters and thought Lucy Lui made a good job of conveying the shocking dilemma she found herself in not just in the hard front she displayed to her protagonists but especially in her off-guard scenes with the mirror and sitting by her mother's bed. The character of the stressed, distressed cop father and his estranged teenage daughter added to the overall effect of lost innocence and loss of hope.

PS.... we liked Ballistic too.

Disappointing

With the cast, i thought the story was weak. You did not feel threatened by the vampires at all.

vampires who cant fight

if it was called this would you watch it. no!.. so do yourself a favour,the director doesnt know how to direct either, reminded me of ballistic ecks/sever , the kind of way that you thought it might be really good, but then was possibly the worst thing ever committed to celluloid. oh yeah lucy lui was in that too. take the advice 'dont even think about it'

Don,t judge a book by its cover

The cover sells this movie but it just can,t live up to it.

Dissappointed

The very title would imply a certain allegiance to the vampire mythos, and yet this film is pretty much anything but. Not that the concept utilized is bad, but it is underdeveloped and at times highly confusing.

Was really expecting more from this film.

Rise - My Expectations

I tried not to get my expectations up to high, but it seems any kind of expectation is too high for this film. I can't even put my finger on what exactly was missing; something vital like a pulse.

For lovers of the Vampire genre this one will leave you... cold and unsatisfied.

A W F U L

A vampire film with no fangs, no tension and no bite. This looks and feels like a third rate T.V. movie, and is a complete waste of the talents involved. Avoid. You will never get your wasted time back.
