The B-movie of B-moviesBy TheWatchman (746 reviews) from Suburbia , 31 May 2013
[Highly rated reviewer]Okay, this movie is bad, but come on you already know that, dont you? With a title like Rise of the Zombies its hardly trying to be Avatar. And its not. Its not even just another lame entry into the seemingly never ending abyss of zombie movies out there at the moment. Its got to be one of the most awful attempts at a zombie film since The Dead Next Door. And why is it so bad? Because it tries to be good. It has no real budget. The CGI effects are truly awful (your average commercial has a higher budget). And the actors cant act. And, those who can, are given so little to work with it becomes pointless even having them there. Its about a zombie plague, blah, blah, blah in San Francisco where people have set up a camp on Alcatraz. Only it gets overrun (pretty easily, for the record) and they head to the city to try and find a cure. Along the way expect the usual zombie headshots, people getting bitten and idiots not doing the sensible things, allowing themselves to get bitten (only all with a really low budget). Danny Trejo is the films highlight, but hes woefully underused. Yes, this film is bad its major flaw is that there are simply a hundred better zombie films out there. Even those other B-movie undead films which youve probably hated are better than this. If you like zombie films, youll probably have seen (and own) better than this. If you dont like zombies then this one wont win you over.
Annoying Scientist trys to find cure to zombie plague that she probably startedBy Gdkool (46 reviews) , 22 Nov 2013Although there are some good actors in this they're flooded by the bad ones. The story, overrun with zombies a group try to reach a cure. They know a cure exists but they go out of their way to kill zombies/people who are freshly bit aswell, instead of thinking 'Hay we can come back later'.
Amateur crudBy Will_H (1 review) , 26 Oct 2013Amateurish, badly acted and Danny Trejo can't save it. Not really up there with the best if the zombie genre!

Amusingly awfulBy a customer , 29 Sep 2013I recommend all fans of the zombie genre to watch this film as it sets a line above which all other films should endeavour to beat. This should not be hard. The film kept me amused, but not in the way it intended. On the bright side, it does explain why Danny Trejo made a guest appearance in COD zombies...
