I may be bias. This movie had everything I wanted to see in a movie as a teenage kid, still does I suppose. So when I see Robocop through adult eyes I am overcome with a feeling of nostalgia.

As far as Sci-Fi goes it doesn’t get any better than this for me. The story is action packed, the violence is ‘cartoon extreme’ and Robocop is one of the best screen creations in movies.

The overall presentation of the movie has a timeless style that is all its own. The story and action move effortlessly along and are nicely inter-cut with news broadcasts and advertisements which add a refreshing touch of satire and parody to the movie. Everything is overblown and over the top in New Detroit . OCP are corrupt beyond measure, street bad guys are comic book psychotic and the police are apathetic wrecks on the brink of meltdown. The whole city is the epitome of chaos and social breakdown. The characters are all enjoyable and all have some funny tongue and cheek dialogue to deliver. I love this movie. What can I say?

The whole concept of Robocop has always impressed me. I see both 1 & 2 as the same movie. I don’t know what happened with 3. That was just a lazy attempt with some great source material. Robocop deserves to breathe again. To be revived seriously like Christopher Nolen is doing with the Batman franchise. I would love to see some new adventures for the Big Man to get into.

  • Dead or alive, you're coming with me

<Policeman transfers to Detroit, Force ran by Tech Company, designs new robotic enforcer, fatal consequences, co-worker has better idea, Policeman fatally wounded, Robocop.

Incredibly entertaining action fest which is obviously dated in some areas but still has lots of relevance 25 years on.

Peter Weller excels in his role complete with memorable lines and there’s very much a Yul Brynner from Westworld feel about him. Great support too from Ronny Cox’s scenery chewing Dick Jones and Kurtwood Smith’s evil Clarence Boddicker.

The Stop-Motion looks a bit off but the OTT is always a standout especially when done by Rob Bottin and a great score too by Basil Poledouris with a very strong main theme.>

I am only just discovering Paul Verhoeven movies after my brother recently recommended Starship Troopers. This is another slice of satirical sci-fi pulp. Next stop: Total Recall!

  • Hyper violent but wonderful satire

This was the talk of the playground when I was at school - after badgering my parents for weeks they finally capitulated and rented it for me on my 15th birthday. It was the first 18 rated film I'd seen and talk about being thrown in the deep end - to this day it probably remains one of the most violent and sweary films I've ever seen!

It remains a firm favourite though, despite losing my schoolboy love of gore - this is an extremely dark comic satire amongst the hyper violence and Paul Verhoeven's wonderfully unique style is stamped throughout.

  • One of the best and it hasn't aged a bit.

Robocop, for me, represents everything glorious about the Sci-fi movies of the eighties and early nineties.

The story is gripping and involving while at the same time remaining humourous and fun. It is packed with over the top violence, ingenius special effects (pre CG) and clever self parody.

Robocop himself is pretty amusing, he is a very sharp shooter and is capable of all sorts of amazing feats - at the same time he walks like a slow motion Michael Barrymore, who is drunk and has sh@t himself.

If you like seeing stereotype baddies get dispatched by a badass robot, along with loads of terrific one liners - this is your film.

The icing on the cake... the second film is EVEN BETTER than the first. It suffers from the Terminator phenomenon - the less said about the third one the better.
