LOVEFiLM Review

It's loud, it's cheesy, it's got Tom Cruise topless... Rock of Ages is '80s fun!

A surprisingly entertaining, funny film.
By Kevvybabes (5 reviews) from Wednesbury , 11 Jun 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
Rock of Ages is definitely more about the music than the plot with songs seeming to come every 10 minutes.
Rather than being out of place, Cruise gives a great performance as Stacee Jaxx, a mix of Axl Rose and Jim Morrison. His vocals are surprisingly good and his version of 'Pour some sugar on me' is the standout of the film.
Female lead Julianne Hough's vocals are simply adequate. At one point her character says she is a better singer than a dancer. I have to disagree.
There are some great performances from the other cast members with Malin Ackerman bringing her physical comedy chops to the party and Zeta-Jones getting all overwrought.- Was this review helpful to you?

(85)Cruise has fun
By Bodds (29 reviews) , 13 Jun 2013Some great rock hits blasted out. It is a musical so be warned but will make you smile and tap your feet. You may even break out the air guitar!!!!- Was this review helpful to you?

Just Not For Me
By Daisy12 (14 reviews) , 09 Jun 2013I found this movie pretty awful. I chose it because I was intrigued to see Tom Cruise sing - which he does do well, but the whole film is just did not appeal. Found it way too cheesy and predictable.- Was this review helpful to you?

I love rock n roll!
By Alison31 (71 reviews) from Eastleigh , 31 May 2013Being a life long Tom Cruise hater, I desperately wanted to dislike this film, even though it was a musical and was about rock stars. (always a plus in my book!). However, Mr Cruise was annoyingly good, and even worse could sing pretty well, and as much as I hate to say it, I could nt imagine anyone else playing the part as well as he did. the film itself was funny, entertaining and good fun and I really enjoyed it. The leading lady was my only issue as I felt she was far too high school musical to be taken seriously as a rock singer come stripper. Big thumbs up!- Was this review helpful to you?

A Bit Stupid
By smellie (31 reviews) from Birmingham , 27 May 2013I don't think any musical, including this one, will ever defeat 'Sweeney Todd' musical. It held a good story and what happens when people give up on their true dreams. Other than that, it did okay but a bit daft at times.- Was this review helpful to you?
