    [Highly rated reviewer]

What an absolute load of crap. I was expecting to see full tv performances from the 60's, instead a load of people talking and very few and brief clips.

    Another wasted dvd

No full tracks, all rudely interrupted by self appointed “experts”

Avoid if you like to watch real music dvd’s.

Another review of the career of the 'World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band'. This disc covers the Singles period, between 1962 and 1970, wherein lies the first of many inaccuracies. The first two Stones singles were not released until 1963 and are not even mentioned in this review. The story starts in 1964 with 'Not Fade Away', their first UK Top 10 hit.

The slightly frustrating way that this has been put together is that single releases are mixed up between the UK and USA. In the early 60's the band had several USA only releases on 45, which would have little meaning to a UK viewer and would give a false picture of their career during the first 2-3 years.

Songs featured here are 'I Just Want To Make Love To You'- not a UK 45 and not a USA 'A' side; 'Time Is On My Side'- a USA only release; 'As Tears Go By'- a UK 'B' side from 1966 but a USA 'A' side in the same year.

Also, at this point in the band's career, the review misses out any mention of the 1965 UK and USA No.1, 'Get Off Of My Cloud'. On the plus side there is colour footage, from the Ed Sullivan Show, of '19th Nervous Breakdown', a UK/USA No.2 from early 1966. I have only seen one other clip of this track, a rather poor black and white version from Australian TV. There are also other performances from the Ed Sullivan Shows that have yet to be released!

As is the format of these reviews you get 'expert' reviewers talking about the tracks but this, frustratingly, is over the performances, so you never see a complete song.

When the story reaches mid 1967 it skips from 'Ruby Tuesday' straight to 1969's chart topper 'Honky Tonk Women'. That is to say no mention of the hit singles, 'We Love You/Dandelion' and 'Jumping Jack Flash', as well as the USA only release of 'She's A Rainbow', now famously a TV ad for Panasonic!

Overall a watchable rockumentary but the better informed Stones fan will squirm at the missing bits.

I can only echo the words of the previous reviewer, poor quality footage, "experts" talking all over the portions of the songs shown. What i cant work out is why it's called THE SINGLES 1962-1970. There're obviously no singles from the Stones in '62, plus no singles mentioned from 1968 or 1970! Oh, and while i'm thinking about i guess mentioning or including Jumping jack flash would have been a good idea. Avoid like the Altamont front row

This really is a dissapointing effort. It has the bizarre fashion of showing 60's Stones clips on a telly; a 1970's to boot! But that's nothing. The 'experts' drivle intersperses the music with wild speculation, going off on a tangent and worse - pomposity. Rock and Roll it ain't.... Waste of time.
