Jet Li takes his first starring role in a US movie, as an ex-cop convict from Hong Kong who flees to America to avenge the death of his brother and gets entangled in a mob war. During his investigation, he continually mixes with the daughter (played by singer Aaliyah) of the rival gang's head thug, yet the film-makers are too cowardly to take the interracial relationship beyond mere friendliness. Even for an American movie, the martial arts sequences are very badly choreographed, and there is far more hip-hop music and lingo than either plot or action. Anthony Anderson provides some welcome comic relief as a dim-witted henchman.
"...A style-drenched, kick-butt, music-fueled, Kung hop actioner that assiduously devotes itself to devising the most dazzling and inventive martial arts sequences..."
"...ROMEO MUST DIE has a great look and an edgy feel....The film's kinetic energy is well-matched by Stanley Clarke and Timbaland's terrific score..."
Upon first viewing of this I was disapointed because I made the mistake of comparing it to Jet Li's Hong Kong movies, but when I watched this again, knowing what to expect, I really enjoyed it, and the fights were actually quite good. The wire work was done quite well for most of the fights and the cgi effects were good too. There are lots of funny moments and Jet doesn't make me cringe like he first did when he atempts to use American slang. Definately worth a second view if you have already seen it once.
This might have been a good movie if I had been able to see more of it. The disc I received
looked like someone had been eating kippers off the playing surface.
A very enjoyable film with great action sceens some laughable comedy and slightly lame romance .If you would like a better story try 'Kiss of the Dragon' but this film is a must for Jet Lee fans ...... you might even get away with this one with the other half !

great film rent this and you will not be Disappointed if you like Martial Arts action or jet li
There are only two words to really describe this film 'Brilliantly entertaining' Jet Li at his very best, if you have yet to see this film and you enjoy an excellent action packed movie then this film is a must, so rent it now.
I really loved this film purely for the fight scenes. Jet Li really makes the film when he gets into his high kicks!!! He can't act very well and the storyline wasn't all that. But overall I liked it. I've seen worse!!!!
Excellent movie, fast paced and full of action with a good storyline to match. One not to be missed.
Jet Li is amazing ! He has shown his martial arts skills brilliantly! He is cute and he has team up with the late Aliyah very well. The story is ver good too!!! This is a worth watching film !!!
If you are a fan of Jet Li and are not too worried about plot holes, then give your brain a rest and relax and enjoy this action romp.
Say no more - gory special effects - if you like action you will love this!

"...Russell Wong brings a malevolent energetic charm to gang member Kai, while Isaiah Washington exudes taut fury..."
Some spectacular moments of martial arts combat are not enough to save this dull and confused action movie.
